Economic Benefits of Marine Protected Areas, Case of Anambas Islands, Indonesia

This study aims to evaluate the economic benefits derived from conservation areas using case of National Marine Protected Areas (MPA) in Anambas Islands. The evaluated top four reef-associated fish with high values, namely grouper, red snapper, threadfin bream, and trevally fish. employed bioeconomic hybrid model estimate Maximum Economic Yield (MEY) for those under sustainable policies. We found positive MPA has shown both biological benefits, spill over impact total value harvest at amount IDR 301,481,685,170/year. that 50% MSY policy on fisheries TAC site will still sustain resource but fishers are less profitable. Some strategies augment outcome Islands include affirmation policies national local government increase fishing capacity skills such as operating larger vessels, eg 10 GT provide programs assistance providing alternative livelihoods fishermen.
